Making systems sustainable: an important part of the Thercon strategy

Europe wants to become the first carbon-neutral continent in the world by 2050 and the European Commission wants to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 55% by 2030. Heat pump technology is well on the way to meeting the challenge of decarbonising the heating sector. As a supplier of heat pumps and Heat Pump Boosters, Thercon wants to offer the best climate comfort with the smallest possible carbon footprint.

“We want to help our customers to design energy-efficient installations that maximise energy efficiency, in order to achieve increased sustainability and extend the life cycle of our installations,” said Benny Frans, Technical Director at Thercon. “By using digital design tools such as Hysopt that transparently display the performance of a system at the design stage, we can work with our customers to create a complete system that performs optimally and delivers maximum CO2 savings”.

Sanistage HP booster

The Sanistage HP Booster is a unique water-to-water heat pump for  domestic hot water production in combination with  low temperature heating systems or 5th generation heat networks.

Thanks to the Hysopt software, the Sanistage HP Booster ends up in an optimised environment. Based on the thermal and hydraulic behaviour of the entire system, HVAC specialists and engineering firms can quickly and easily evaluate system performance based on CO2emissions, annual energy cost, comfort, and investment cost. The “Hysopt ParetoAnalysis” provides insight into the evaluation at the touch of a button.

In the second phase, the digital model allows installers to correctly select and commission the hydraulic components of the entire system. The products are automatically included in the item list, including item numbers and optimum pre-configurations. In addition, Thercon offers an inspiration library in the software with templates of systems and subsystems based on the products.

Model integration in the Hysopt software

When integrating manufacturer-specific components, the correct physical parameters are pre-programmed into the Hysopt model, allowing the Sanistage HP Booster’s physical behaviour to be mimicked using dynamic simulations. The Hysopt modelof the Sanistage HP Booster has been validated based on measurement data obtained in accordance with European standard EN16147.

Using an Ecodesign (S – XXL)tapping pattern, domestic hot water can be extracted from the Sanistage HPBooster just as it would in a real apartment. The integrated control strategy detects the discharge of the storage tank on which the heat pump will switch onto maintain the temperature of the storage tank and provide hot water to the resident.

Users can select the Sanistage HPBoosters from a catalogue, using intuitive filtering to quickly select from the desired range. Each model consists of a unique set of technical parameters used in the calculations.

A sustainable product in an optimised system

Havid El Khaoui, R&D consultant at Hysopt, is very pleased with the new partnership: “The demand for sustainability is increasing in society, not only due to the new standards imposed by the government but also due to the awareness among property owners, project developers and investors to strive for a carbon neutral future. With the Hysopt software, we ensure that a sustainable product such as the Sanistage HP Booster ends up in an optimised environment. This ensures that the entire system meets sustainability requirements.
