FRONNT is an engineering-driven organisation working on increasingly complex HVAC and energy projects, including geothermal systems and large-scale heat pump installations. As project complexity grows, so does the need for reliable hydraulic calculations and system validation.
When ABN Klimatisatie, Bovema and Climawest, all part of the FRONNT group, started using Hysopt, the teams knew it would not be a simple, plug-and-play exercise. FRONNT’s projects rarely follow standard HVAC templates. Several ongoing designs involve geothermal boreholes combined with heating and cooling operation, which makes system modelling more demanding. According to Jarne: “Simulating these systems is not always straightforward, but it reflects the reality of our work.”
Rather than simplifying the problem, the team uses Hysopt to break complex systems down into hydraulically sound structures. Even when certain concepts require abstraction, the focus remains on whether the system can be installed, balanced and operated correctly on site.
This approach allows FRONNT to use Hysopt not just as a simulation tool, but as an engineering check — validating whether a proposed design will actually work once built.
Improving sizing, selection and system confidence
One of the first clear benefits for FRONNT came from component sizing. Engineers used Hysopt to determine correct pipe diameters, calculate pressure drops and select pumps within their optimal operating range. Jarne notes that the team has already encountered situations where an initial pump selection turned out to be too small — and in other cases, unnecessarily large.
By identifying these issues early, Hysopt helps avoid costly corrections later in the project. The software supports a more data-driven design process, where hydraulic behaviour is checked before decisions are finalised.
For FRONNT, this has reinforced confidence in their designs, especially on projects where multiple heat pumps, changeover systems and different terminal units interact in complex ways.
